C.O.P. Training - Thursday Nights:

Dryland Training:
Runs October to the first of December and is
usually between 2 & 4 days per week in 1 1/2 – 2 hour sessions. Training is
usually a mix of work done in a diving pool, a gym, and the Gymnastics Centre.
Exact startup date is determined by when the water ramp closes. The end of
this training usually is dependant on snow and temperatures. See separate
schedules provided for exact times, dates, and venues.
Winter Snow Training:
Our main snow training is at Canyon Ski Area, and
starts as soon as the hill is open in late November. It runs to the middle of
March when Canyon typically closes. The team also trains some weekday evenings
in the superpipe at C.O.P., averaging about one trip to Calgary every week. A
Canyon ski pass is suggested. Training at Canyon usually runs from 5:30 PM to
9 PM on the weekdays and from 9:30 AM to 3 or 3:30 PM on weekends. Early
season training may be organized on weekends, if reasonable. These weekends
are primarily for athletes moving inverted tricks from the water ramps to
snow, so that the time between water and snow is as short as possible. The
team has also organized other mountain training weekends, at places such as
Kicking Horse, Sunshine, Apex, and Lake Louise. See separate on-snow schedules
provided for exact times, dates, and venues.
Christmas Training Camp:
Usually a three/four day camp during the Christmas
break held with the goal of intensified training to get a good start on the
competition season, and for team building.
Central Alberta Freestyle Ski Club operates a water ramp
program at the ramps in Three Mile Bend riverside park. The program runs 3-4
days a week throughout the summer from mid June to mid October. A separate fee
is charged for this program. Additional information will be available in the
spring. Note: there is also a water ramp program in Grande Prairie.
Please leave a message for the coach if you are going to
be late or absent, by Jer Bachelor (403) 510-8349, Mary Warrener (403) 887-3958, or
emailing warrener@telusplanet.net .
Note: it is
important to be on time for training, to allow the head coach to plan the
evening’s training groups and to pass on any messages for the day. We expect
athletes to be dressed, with lift passes, and ready to go out onto the ski hill
by the posted training start time for the session. Please let your coach know if
you have an unavoidable reason for not making the posted start time, such as
music lessons, school commitments, work, etc. so that he can plan accordingly.
