BINGOS & CASINOS
Our club relies on funds earned from working approximately 12 afternoon, evening, and late night bingos at Cannery Row Bingo Hall, plus 1 casino every 1 ½ to 2 years at Jackpot Casino in Red Deer.
Bingos:Each bingo worked requires 4 volunteer workers, a chairperson, a paymaster, and two controllers – cash & card. Workers are required to be at the Bingo Hall from 11:00 AM to 3:30 PM for an afternoon, 4:45 PM to 10:00 PM for an evening, and 9:00 PM to 12:30 AM for a late night. The chairperson should be about 15 minutes earlier and may have to stay a bit later to do bank deposits and balance the bingo event transactions.
It is very important to be on time and to not forget to come to a bingo! Demerits and fines are given to the club for infractions and could cause our club to lose their license.
Alberta Gaming rules that only registered members may work a bingo. Parents are considered members of our club, when the athlete joins. Any other relatives and friends that would like to work spots on the athlete’s behalf need to purchase an associate club membership, which is currently $5. Bingo volunteers must be 18 years of age and cannot be paid employees of the club, so coaches are not eligible to work bingo spots.
The ‘bingo year’ for each season starts on the Jan 1 following the fall registration and runs thru to the end of the next Dec. Each season after registration we discuss as a group how many bingos we would like to sign up for the following year. Then the spots are split up among the families on a pro-rata basis for 2 day and 4 day athletes. We have typically given a bit of a break for those families with more than one child in the program. We also have signed up for extra bingos to allow athletes to accumulate some credit towards their own expenses. These spots, if we take any on as a club, are split up evenly among families that wish to use them. See the separate ‘Athlete Fundraising Opportunities’ fact sheet for additional information.
FUN CASINO
Held at the start of the club season, this is an opportunity to raise public awareness of, and support for, the club. Club members' parents and/or designates sell tickets to the Fun Casino, and canvas local businesses for door-prizes
CLUB COMPETITION BROCHURE ADVERTISING
Held once per year, our Club Competition is another way for us to raise funds and awareness in our club. Club members' parents canvas local businesses for advertisements for the Competition brochure, in either full-page, half-page or business card formats. |
