CLUB
HISTORY
The Central
Alberta Freestyle Ski Club was formally constituted in 1980 with the
following founding executive: Lawrence Sidebottom, Ken Lund, Nancy Lund,
Wayne Carey, and Pat Henry Sr. The club started with about 6 members and
currently has a membership roster of about 150 members, consisting of about
20 competitive athletes, over 80 Jumps’n Bumps athletes, plus a full roster
of coaches, parents, and volunteers.
The water ramp at Three Mile Bend was built by club
members in 1987, and is currently one of only four in Canada. All levels of
athletes train on the water ramp during the summer months to qualify for
inverts such as somersaults and twists, and New School maneuvers before
competing on snow. Training also assists in uprights, spins, and corked
tricks for both air and moguls.
The current aerial jump site at Canyon was also built
by club members and has been an excellent training location for the team
over the years. In the past three years, upgrades have been made to both the
air site, and mogul site at Canyon.
Our current head coach is Jay Vaughan, a former
Canadian National Team mogulist and Alberta Team coach. This will be his
first year as head coach of CAFSC. He also coaches at the Three Mile Bend
water ramp facility in the summer.
Notable athletes who have trained with CAFSC, and who
have gone on to compete at the international level include –

Dionne
